There seems to be a new tablet, smartphone, upgrade, tech and who knows what else everyday. It can often be a daunting task to stay informed on the latest gadgets and even problematic when you bring one home. So what are you supposed to do with the new technology? How do you make sure you are actually helping and not hurting? How do you know you won’t fail? How do you.. How do you.. These are just a few of the questions we often ask ourselves when trying something new. We have a few tips to help you accept and make the most of your new tools.
Relax
1. There is nothing we cannot learn over time. A learning curve is always expected for anything new, this includes a new app, device or therapy. Cut yourself some slack; take a deep breath, and first decide what you want to accomplish. Now accept that it may take some time to get there.
Go for it!
2. Making technology like a tablet or smartphone work for your child does not require skill as much as curiosity. Proficiency can be developed, but not without sufficient motivation. Think back to why you are trying something new in the first place, for the betterment of you or your child. Now Go for it and explore your new device! Embrace the functions and familiarize yourself with the screens, don’t be afraid to click, swipe and open everything.
Discuss
3. Talking with others who have experience with your tech can be very beneficial. Look for support groups, blogs, and even classes to ensure you are getting the most from your new product. Ask what has worked best for them, or maybe what it is they are trying to accomplish. You may even have helpful tips you can offer from your own experiences.
Captivate
4. No solution is effective if it fails to capture the attention of those we seek to help. We have to work equally as hard to engage as we do to discover. Even when you know you have found the perfect solution to help someone, you must understand it is a two way street. You have to work just as hard, if not harder to help them adopt the new idea as you have. When working together you are more likely to not only reach your goals, but exceed them as your shared passion for success continues to grow.
There will always be something new that could be of great help for you or your child. It is important to not worry if you have all the latest tech, instead focus on what works for you. Remember your motivation for trying something new and use these 4 tips to help you embrace and get the most from your new tools.
